PI Ceramic Invests in the Future: Inauguration of the New Building in Lederhose

PI Ceramic, a company of the PI (Physik Instrumente) Group, has built a new office and production facility at the Lederhose location in Thuringia, Germany. With this, the company tries to satisfy the growing demand for piezoceramic components, actuators, and subsystems. The grand opening of the building took place with many invited guests.

After the opening of the inauguration ceremony by Dr. Patrick Pertsch, CEO of PI Ceramic, Dr. Karl Spanner, the founder of the company, gave some insights into the company history and remembered, "Back then, I was convinced that piezo ceramics were something that was needed – but, at the time, no one new that yet. PI Ceramic is an important basis without which the parent company PI would not be what it is today."
The head of the district authority in Greiz, Martina Schweinsburg, congratulated the management on their bravery with the words: "Here at PI Ceramic, it is possible to get the latest input for the future."

Expansion for Even More Innovation and Creativity

The new building extension is part of the fourth stage of construction and it increases the current 12,000 square meters of the industrial estate at the Hopfengarten in Lederhose by an additional 7,500. On three floors, it offers enough space for both the expansion of the multilayer production, including ISO class 6 to 8 cleanrooms, and new offices for Marketing and Sales. Furthermore, there is a company restaurant and a show room with a customer and visitors center. In the basement, the company has created parking spaces for cars and bicycles.

Whilst planning the new building, energy efficiency was very important: A photovoltaic system with 200 kilowatt peak was integrated on the roof top. The electricity created is used completely by PI Ceramic. An expansion of the system has been planned for 2023.
More than 15 million euros have been invested in the building project. "As the demand for our products and solutions is growing in all markets, we will continue to invest in PIC's headquarters," so Dr. Patrick Pertsch.

This fourth stage of construction was also managed by Harsch Bau GmbH from Baden-Wuerttemberg. Rudolf Harsch, the Managing Director, was among the guests for the inauguration and he ceremoniously passed the building on to Markus Spanner, the client as well as CEO of Physik Intrumente and PI Invest.

Growth On All Levels

The subsidiary of PI currently employs 430 staff members and continues to grow. With this new building, PI Ceramic has created the prerequisite for an additional 200 workplaces in a future-proof industry and is so one of the most important employers in the region.

The company is not only manufacturer and supplier of piezo components for the parent company PI, also delivering to production sites in Germany, USA, and China, but also has its own competence area within the PI Group — Piezo Technology. Amongst the many national and international customers, there are small and medium-sized enterprises as well as global players from the markets medical technology, semiconductor industry, industrial ultrasonics sensor technology, and printing and dispensing technologies. With a 30% increase in revenue in 2021, PI Ceramic is amongst the worldwide leading high-tech companies in piezo technology. For this current fiscal year, the company is also expecting significant growth.
